The name Prometheus comes from the greek meaning "forethought". Prometheus was a Titan who had sided with Zeus and the ascending Olympian Gods. He decided to side with Zeus and the other Gods when there was a struggle against Kronos and multiple other Titans. Due to Prometheus help the Olympian Gods were able to defeat Kronos. Prometheus had a special talent of be able to "foretell " the future.
Prometheus was the son of Iapetus and was siblings with Epimetheus. Both himself and Epimetheus were delegated by Zeus to create man. As most stories recall, Prometheus is most known as being the protector and benefactor of man. He was also known for giving multiple gifts to mankind one in which had been fire. Although he sided with Zeus, Prometheus did trick Zeus regarding animal sacrifice. He was able to make Zeus let men keep the best parts of animal sacrifice and the Gods to get the worst.
Zeus was not very upset with the lies of Prometheus so he had him tied to a rock, with an eagle eating out his liver. Zeus decided to leave him there for eternity. Prometheus was later saved by Hercules without having to give into Zeus.
